On a more serious note today...
According to the experts sex infections in teens are rising. They are saying that girls ages 15-19 had the largest reported number of chlamydia and gonorrhea cases. What is going on with our society? I remember as a kid AIDS was the big thing. I was taught to stay clear from unprotected sex, needles, blood, and anything else that could cause exposure to AIDS. I was told flat out that you can die and it is very serious. What are kids being told today? Are we too afraid to tell them that they really could die? It's time to be blunt. Experts say that these types of infections can cause cervical cancer. So, yes, it is very serious and kids must know. So my question is about the new Gardasil vaccine. This vaccine comes with a lot of controversy. Is giving your child the Gardasil vaccine giving them permission to have sex? Is it giving them a free-for-all and false feeling that they are safe to do as they please? Or is Gardasil the safe way to go? What are your feelings about this new vaccine?

I'll vaccinate because I'm in favor of vaccinating against everything. I don't think it's a free pass for sex for a kid that wouldn't have done it anyway. Hopefully with help from our church, I'll be able to raise a daughter that doesn't engage in risky behavior. Hopefully.
I hope the vaccine is not a free pass to have sex. Just the same way that I don't actively put my children (who are vaccinated) in the company of someone with measles etc, I am hoping my daughter will see that the vaccination does not mean we invite exposure. She is not even 2 yet, so I have a bit longer to convince her about this...
I know some girls in my youth group have gotten this shot & it just bothers me because I dont know if they know what the long term effects of it is...thats what scares me more then anything.
I am glad you found me and YOUR blog is exactly the kind I love too! So now we've found each other.
I'm sure we'll do the vaccination, by the way. Not that we won't be educating against premarital sex, but it's kind of like educating on ways to avoid the flu, but not getting the vaccine for that too. I am just in favor of vaccines (as in I'll take all the help I can get!).
This actually freaks me out, and it's the kind of stuff that I know I'll have to deal with one day...but glad that my kids are still so little!
BTW, thanks for always supporting and visiting Theta Mom. I am your most recent follower. :)
