Boys have it made. They don't have to find a bathroom they way girls do, they can just find a tree. But wait a minute, that tree does have to be somewhat discrete, right?
I know someone whose son, now 4 years old, will go anywhere. So many times I have turned around and what do I see but this little boy standing there with his pants at his ankles like one of those Italian water fountain statues. This boy has marked his spot in the middle of a park, middle of a park. I am not talking about a tree in the park. I am talking about out in the open in the middle of a bunch of people having their picnic lunch! He has marked his spot standing on the side of a pool pointing himself out of the fence in the middle of a birthday party. He has marked his spot on the front lawn in the middle of an Easter egg hunt (no trees in site)! And guess what, the parents think it is funny! They don't even think twice about it and laugh.
Really?
I have a son. I know the beauty of being a boy is that it is very convenient to go when you really need to. But, I will say that my son never marked any spots in any public places.
Do you think it is okay for little boys to drop their drawers in front of crowds of people and make every spot a urinal?

Sorry. That is not cute and it is not funny. And it's not safe. A little boy dropping his pants in public? Come on parents, we have got to do better.
Mmmm...I'm gonna have to go with Chele. That's not cute - at all. That boy needs to learn where it is appropriate to relieve himself - like a restroom. Because he gets just a little bit older and does that he can face criminal charges.
O. M. G. I'm sorry, but what is WRONG with some parents?????!! Imagine if a child molester were sitting on a bench in that park? The parent's might as well have put a neon sign on him that reads "Hey pedophiles, look at me!!"
It's reading about stuff like that that makes me want to bang my head against a wall in frustration.
It's fine...as long as you consider your child to be on the same level as a dog.
Some people...
Uh absolutely not!!! I cant even imagine one of mine doing that..UGH!!
No, that's not cute at all. I'm having such a hard time with potty training my son that I've thought about letting him go outside, but then I read somewhere that they let their son do it and he wouldn't ever stop! Once you let your child do it - and its ok, he's not going to understand why it's ok to pee in the yard at home, but not anywhere else.
With that said, I think 4 is a little old not to make this differentiation - obviously the parents are encouraging this behavior. That is so not ok! Shouldn't they be embarrassed? I know I would be! There's no way I'm going to let my 2 year old pee outside now...
It's a NO from me.
We made friends with a boy that's one month younger that Julia in our old neighborhood. He told me at the park once that he had to go. I said I'd walk with him to the porta potty. He started whipping it out right there. I gave him a big old hold your horses and he caught on right away. It wasn't a tough phenomenon for the parents to squelch.
I think the parents set the tone for that sort of thing. Dogs can go anywhere. Humans, not so much.
In front of crowds or in public? NO. In my backyard in the bushes....ok....once in a while ;)
Ew, gross! Both of my kids have had to go in the great outdoors, but always in private and never where someone might walk in the left-behind (shudder).
Thumbs down!
No, they should teach them some privacy manners. But this does remind me of years ago when a child of about 4 was playing in the yard several houses down from us. He wasn't being supervised, so I was kind of keeping an eye on him myself, when he marched to the end of the driveway. I was about to intervene thinking he was headed for the road when he stopped and let loose into the street. I have to admit it cracked me up because they weren't watching him and so had no idea what he was up to in front of the whole neighborhood.
Is it okay? Absolutely not.
This is absolutely inappropriate. It's one thing, when the child is learning how to take care of potty needs himself, to have an oopsie because you do so at the wrong time or in an inappropriate place. But - this is a FOUR year old child. By FOUR years old, he should definitely know better than to whip out the mini-weasle in public, anytime, anywhere. It definitely won't be cute when he's ten, and people have actually been arrested for that sort of thing - indecent exposure?
The parents need to nip that little bud right now (preferably yesterday) and stop this behavior. They need to stop laughing and start being parents. Laugh about it in private - but not in front of the kid.
If they had a daughter, would they let this sort of thing go on?
Rotfl. I'm cracking up. No I don't think its Ok. First I thought you were talking about you. My son did this at my moms front door once and it was so embarassing. I think we talked about it enough that he never did it again. However the other day he had to go in a water bottle and he insisted. We were in the car so no one saw.lol
