Dignity - is that a word?

I am the first to admit that I am a pretty private person.  The whole blogging world has been a step out of my little bubble that I usually live in.  But isn't there a line?  Do some people just not care how much they divulge about their lives?  Are they just not thinking or do they just not care?  Of course we have all the technology of today with social networking and blogging where people will post personal information and pictures without sometimes thinking twice, but what I want to talk about today tops the cake.

When I was pregnant I, like many other preggo mom's out there, loved A Baby Story on TLC.  But come on!  I cannot in my wildest dreams ever imagine going through labor on national television.  There they are right there legs spread wide open pushing a baby out, on TV!

Is there any dignity left in the world?  Is there some million dollar prize that I don't know about that these people are getting for doing such a thing?  I personally don't think I would even do this for a million dollars.

Do you know anyone who has exposed it all on national television?  Would you do this if you had the opportunity?

I don't think I'd want to expose it all on national television, for any amount of money. But maybe the women on the TLC show figure what they're doing is educational, or a true sharing of what it's really like to give birth, that it's natural/beautiful/etc. and they are just gonna let it all hang out? I don't know! I don't suppose it's any worse than the people on Maury Povich or Jerry Springer who go on about who they had sex with and how they're 190% sure that this guy is the baby's father, and then find out they're wrong!

I don't think I could ever do it. EVER. I'm a very shy, quiet person, so it would be WAY out of my comfort zone.

Thanks for commenting at The Sweetest Petunia - it really means a lot to me!

I would have done a documentary about my pregnancy but I wouldn't have shown my private parts.

Just stopping by from SITS to say hello!

I am pretty sure I could not do that even for a very large sum of money... I mean that is just pure craziness in my opinion!

I watched it all the time, but I wouldn't ever bare it all! Every time I saw people I'd wonder if they'd seen my you know what! I came over from SITS!

Apparently my h.s. produces a lot of reality TV stars. Don't know why. I'm from a suburb of Chicago. There's been a couple Real World-ers, Bill Rancic (from Apprentice fame), and Are You Hot.

Maybe if I had been through something unique and thought my experience would really mean something and help people if they knew about it. However, showing my privates parts on tv doesn't help get any message across, so I think it is unnecessary.

And what is gained by watching rich brats go to bars and get in fights? Way to much drama in my opinion, and I would never want that.

I am a mom through biology and adoption. Never would i ever do a show about either one!

I loved watching "Adoption Stories" on Discovery Health when my twins were small. However, some adoptive families bothered me. They were telling some very deep personal secrets about their child's birth mother and birthfather that should have remained PRIVATE. Why does the world have to know that your birthmom was a crack addict?

One of the number one rules about adoption is to let your child share his or her birthparent story. It is not yours to tell.

No I don't know of anyone personally. I wouldn't do it personally. I hope I'm not sticking my foot in my mouth.

wow no way would i do this on tv. i'm all for showing teens the truth about pregnancy (the baby doesn't just pop out with no pain) and taking care of children - but save it for a class or something...i would also never want my children, grandchildren, etc. to come across this in re-runs.

I would not do it on national television. Only my hubby, nurse, and doctor were allowed in there! :) On the other hand, I absolutely loved watching the Baby Story when I was pregnant. I would cry every time a baby was born! It got me excited!

I wouldn't expose my family to reality tv, but I would totally do something The Big Give or The Biggest Loser -- something that might exploit me, but that wouldn't put my family in the spotlight.

I wouldn't ever sacrifice dignity, though. I do have a line. I wonder, though, if the lines get blurry when ego steps in. I mean, it's easy to draw firm boundaries in hypothetical situations, isn't it?

I was on a talk show once *hangs head*. It was the Jenny Jones show about 7 years ago. We made the story up, I just wanted a free trip to Chicago and be on TV, lol. I've learned to keep my mouth shut online about super personal things. I've learned that if I really feel the need to vent my personal problems, I do it in private where no one else can read it!

I don't and there is no way that I would ever do it myself. Sometimes I feel like I've gotten so lax with just putting pictures of myself online. Just pictures! I can't even imagine having my whole (future) pregnancy out there for just any old person to watch.

Of course I'll write about it, but that seems at least a little more private.

No, no and no.
Not on national TV. not even on our own home movies. Hey, I'm the first one wanting the video camera whipped out once the baby is OUT. Ye, those amazing first minutes caught on camera. But no thanks, I don't want my bits spread all over ANY screen, ceratainly not national TV.
Maybe there WAS a million dollar prize they never told us about and those ladies thought it was worth it??

I often think about the whole privacy thing - especially with all the reality shows on now. The pregnancy thing - no way, not for me! Sometimes I wish TLC's "What not to wear" show would pick me for a makeover (I could REALLY use some fashion help), but then I remember that they do that secret footage of the person in their day to day look and I think I'd to see myself. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog this week! I'm going to look around here a bit longer, and I'll be back for sure!

I don't know anyone who's been exposed on national tv. I do know a bunch of people that will talk about anything that's going on in their life. They include details that you never wanted to here and get into conversations that make me wonder, "why are you telling me this?"

I think the fame brings that out in a lot of people on a national stage.
